Methods and Tips for Applying Brazilian Virgin Hair Lace Closures

With hair extension methods that use a binding method to secure the extensions to you natural hair, styling your hair up can be quite difficult. If the hair is not styled carefully, the bindings can show from under your natural hair and reveal your hair extensions.

Lace closures avoid this problem entirely. Lace closures are made using a fine lace mesh. It is to this lace mesh that the strands of hair are attached. To install the lace, all of the natural hair is first tightly braided against the scalp. This tight braiding is then used to secure the lace closure to the head. This is done by sewing the lace closure against the braids in a U shape. To secure the front portion of the lace closure, one of two methods are commonly used:

Glued Installation Method

This is the more common of the two installation methods and is the kind you’ll probably receive if you have a professional put in the lace closure for you. This method involves gluing the front of the closure to a thin section of the topmost portion of your forehead. This method requires the lace closure be secured a little further forward on the wearer’s head.

Glue-less Elastic Band Installation Method

To avoid the use of glue, an elastic band can be used to hold the front portion of the lace closure against the head. The elastic band is usually sown onto the closure before the installation. To hide the edge of the virgin hair lace closure, it is usually positioned a little behind the start of the hairline.

Lace Closure Tips

Dying the Lace Closure

Occasionally, the lace on a closure may come in white, making it obvious against your head if you have darker skin. To match the closure’s color to your own natural skin tone, you can use hot tea to dye it a darker color.

Achieving a More Natural Crown

When braiding your hair against the scalp, try to keep the braids a little flatter against the crown. This will help to give your head a more natural shape.
